Emerging Ghanaian musician Yaw Zig has addressed the misconceptions faced by artistes in his city, Obuasi, in the Ashanti Region.
Highlighting the stigma that pursuing a music career is often associated with academic failure or a lack of ambition.
During an interview on Agonaba Showbiz with host DJ Tony on Sunday, September 28, 2025, Yaw Zig discussed the success of his recent hit single, “Mo Be Te“, which soared to the number three spot on Audiomack’s trending chart.
Reflecting on the track’s unexpected popularity, he remarked, “The song blew up, and I was truly surprised by its reach. But where I’m from, when you pursue music, people often assume you didn’t excel academically or that you have no better prospects, which is why you’re making music“.
Yaw Zig’s comments shed light on the challenges young artists face in overcoming societal stereotypes while striving for success in the music industry.
