Since the early 2020s, rap acts from various countries, especially Nigeria, Ghana, South Africa, and Tanzania, have gathered to showcase their lyrical prowess at the annual Hennessy Cypher.
Over the years, the Cypher has become a testing ground for determining the best rap talents from across the continent.
The 2025 edition, produced by South Africaâs Kabza De Small, featured an explosive lineup:Â Joey BÂ (Ghana), Blaqbonez (Nigeria), Femi One (Kenya), Ms Banks (Nigeria), and Javia (Tanzania).
Ghanaâs Joey B, in particular, has drawn massive praise, with many declaring his performance as a standout moment that once again affirms Ghanaâs dominance in African rap.
His verse received commendations from fans across the continent, including numerous Nigerians.
Some comments include:
âYou see that thing called Hip hop, leave it to Ghanaians.â
âJoey BÂ is like that overqualified kid in a classroom,â another said.
Another user stated, âCame for Blaq, stayed for Joey.â
Narrowing it down to the social media scene in Ghana, it appears everyone cannot get enough of Joey B.
